AUCP Announces Scholarship
JOHNSTOWN, PA (Feb. 28, 2017) – A local nonprofit, who serves and advocates for the disability community, has released their first high school scholarship application. Alleghenies Unlimited Care Providers (AUCP) is a direct care agency, located in Richland Township, which provides in-home non-medical care to individuals with varying mental and/or physical limitations and offers a variety of individualized services ranging from independent living skills training in the classroom to community-based case management for social, recreational, and residential supports. Employing over 200 caregivers throughout a 13 county span, the agency prides itself on quality service.
“We wanted to begin a program, led by our Board of Directors, that could make a further impact within our community which focused more on the future of our youth,” explains Tasha Adams, Development and Media at AUCP, “Our Board was very excited to get involved in such a new aspect of the organization.” The scholarship application, available to all Cambria County School Districts, focuses on awarding a scholarship up to $1,000 to one or more high school seniors who have a physical and/or mental limitation and are looking to further their education through school, workshops, or classes after graduation.
AUCP has nine volunteer Board members who oversee the organizations operations. From backgrounds in finance and government to management and entrepreneurship, the AUCP Board Members have a wide array of skills and interests. “We decided this would be a wonderful opportunity to support our young community members with furthering their education,” says Kathy DePra, AUCP Board Chair, “We understand how challenging it can be, as far as funding goes, to have a limitation when pursuing additional education.”
The scholarship application, which requests a visual poem, is available to Cambria County School Districts until May 8, 2017. “We are really looking forward to receiving applications and supporting a worthy applicant(s) in their future plans,” states Adams.
